It all started with the enthusiasm for the music of Django Reinhardt und Stéphane Grappelli - until Ulrich Hoffmeier, since years the guitarist of "Max Raabe & Palast Orchester", had the idea of adding German songs of the 20s and 30s to the repertoire of the Premier Swingtett. In the mean time the Premier Swingtett has a "German Songbook" in the style of „Quintette du Hot Club de France“: fresh arrangements of famous and not so famous songs that were once interpreted by stars like Marlene Dietrich, the Comedian Harmonists or Heinz Rühmann: "Ein Freund ein guter Freund", "Wenn der weiße Flieder wieder blüht" or "Dein ist mein ganzes Herz". The compositions by Kurt Weill, Theo Mackeben or Franz Lehar are to the Premier Swingtett what the great songs by Gershwin, Porter or Rodgers & Hart are to the US-Americans.
